When I was planning out our menu for the week, I was struck with sudden inspiration. CHEESE STEAKS!
When I was chopping up onions for the week, I sliced 2 into rings. Then, I put them onto the stove for a looooong time in some butter.
I defrosted some grass-fed beef and John sliced it up for us.
Then, he cooked it in the grill pan with some more butter.
In the meantime, I sliced up some garlic herb raw cheddar.
When the meat was just about cooked, I layered the sliced cheese and cooked onions on top.
Check out the gooey goodness!
I opened up a jar of home made lacto-fermented pickles for the occasion!
The cheesey steaks were served on my sandwich bread, with pickles and roasted peppers that John made on the side.

This looks so good!! We had filets the other night with family over and ended up having three left over. I sliced them up, cooked some onions and peppers in a pan with LOTS of butter, then added the meat till it was heated up. I served it all on top of some bread with cheese. It was so good. Just thought I'd share, as we were on similar wave lengths with this :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks fantastic! This would be a great way to use up leftover steak.
ReplyDeleteOh yum! What a great recipe, and what a good way to use up your leftovers too. Cheesesteaks are one of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteOh my GOSH! Jackie, I am totally drooling all over my screen! These are totally awesome! You know, we have a stand by us that makes cheesesteaks and very infrequently we get them because well, they are called bombs around here for a reason! I never EVEN thought to make my own! I am so sharing this on the hearth and soul hop highlights this friday at a moderate life because it looks so good and why the heck not make your own healthy version of a favorite like this! You rock it girl! Thanks for sharing it on the hearth and soul hop! hugs! Alex
